Frequently Asked Questions

  1. I live in Hamilton, Mississauga or Guelph.  Do I have to live in Halton to register?

You can reside anywhere in Canada.

  1. I don't have any records of my marks from high school. Can I still register?

Certainly. Call the Site Supervisor. They can arrange to get your records.

  1. I have been out of school for a while.  I already have my diploma and would like to go back to college but I think I might need an additional Science, Math or English high school course to get into a college program. I'm confused.

Call us to set up an appointment. There are many different courses, prerequisites, etc., which each college wants. See us to find the best path for you to take.

  1. I do not have my diploma but have taken night courses at college and some courses at work. Do these count?

Please see us. We will assess your individual situation and show you where you stand.

  1. I work full time. How can I find time to go to school?

Our Self-Reliant Program requires you to be here at least 6.5 hours a week, per course. The times you come are up to you. If you work during the day, come in the evenings (we are open some evenings). If you work afternoons, come in the mornings, etc.

  1. If this is not a classroom like I remember it, how does it work?

You have made the most important step - you are enrolling in our course. Our job is to guide you to success. You will work individually with your teacher, be given assignments and use our resources as you work in the Education Centre. If you need help, and do not understand something, just ASK your teacher for assistance.

  1. How do the courses compare to those offered in other High Schools and through the Independent Learning Centre?

Our courses meet the same Ministry of Education requirements as do these other courses and require the same amount of time and effort to complete. They differ in the method of Self-Reliant delivery because you are working one on one with a teacher and can get immediate feedback and assistance. We monitor your regular attendance, submission of work, and satisfactory progress in the course. Failure to comply with our attendance, assignment submission, and course progress policies will result in dismissal from the course.
